Splendid Loves… London Shop Fronts

June 9, 2009 by lifeissplendid

@ewebber London Shop Fronts: hot n’ Tender, Hoxton Street N1 http://tinyurl.com/lp7445

Emily captures images of interesting London shop fronts, every day. Wonderfully relaxing and a somehow tender examination of the ephemeral faces of the street furniture that are shop fronts.

Nice Album, Shame About The Cover

My current favourite blog and one the reasons I love the internet; you get to meet folks with the most interesting but ultimately, well, specialist obsessions. This particular blog impresses me on two levels. Firstly, someone has access to an outstanding collection of jazz records. Second, they have taken the time to analyse thousands of them and categorise the cover artwork with labels like “Bad Day For a Photoshoot”, “Outer limits of taste” and, of course, “focus on phallus”. My personal favourite is the category “all work is prostitution really”.

Flight of the Conchords is back on BBC4. The preview documentary was a bit boring, the first episode of the new series was a miss but by episode 2, New Zealand’s fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo accapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo are rocking again, once more under guidance of their useless manager, Murray. This episode features the brilliant R&B pastiche ‘Sugar lumps’ and sees the guys contemplating a career as male prostitutes to pay the bills: Bret:

Jemaine, I don’t think we’re going to get sex and get paid. Jemaine: Why not? Bret: ‘Cause we never get sex or get paid.

Social Media Reality Check (Via Adweek)

June 8, 2009 by lifeissplendid

Very insightful post on what to actually think about when planning on using social media as an organisation. It seems like basic stuff, but all too often social media is seen as a quick one and without any value outwith the number of friends you’ve added: Social Media Reality Check

Ideally the colour key would be more clear as it’s a bit confusing, but some reallyuseful information for pan-european/global social media campaign planning.

Big Yellow Self Storage launches search for web savvy grads

May 26, 2009 by lifeissplendid

Calling all social media rising stars!

Splendid client Big Yellow Self Storage is looking for a determined, dynamic and talented individual to become its social media intern this summer. Brilliant news in a recession – we know how hard to come by these opportunities can be.

Big Yellow is running a competition for the paid internship via the social video channel 12seconds.tv. Candidates should be able to sell themselves via an online audition which will last no longer than 12 seconds thus creating the world’s first speed-video job application. People just need to tell Big Yellow, in no more than 12 seconds why they’re right for the job: http://12seconds.tv/campaign/bigyellowselfstorage.

Whilst there’s only one paid internship placement up for grabs, Big Yellow is committed to showcasing all entries to the industry in the hope that other talented hopefuls will be snapped up by recruiters. The search is open to PR, marketing and new media undergraduates and new graduates but is also open to submissions from anyone else who fancies a go providing they’re over the age of 18 and are eligible to work in the UK.

So now you’re wondering how to enter? Candidates need to speed over to 12seconds.tv and upload their video interview in five easy steps designed to test their social media prowess:

  1. Register an account on 12seconds.tv/campaign/bigyellowselfstorage
  2. Link your Twitter and Facebook accounts to your 12 seconds account (this is an option in your profile area)
  3. Record a 12 second video on a mobile phone, video camera or webcam and upload it to 12seconds.tv/campaign/bigyellowselfstorage
  4. Fill in the ‘submit my CV’ form and attach a recent copy of your CV

The closing date for entries is June 13th 2009. The winner will be announced on June 29th 2009.

Splendid Australasia goes 360 with former Spin MD hire

April 15, 2009 by lifeissplendid

annalise-brown-splendid-directorWe’d like to extend a warm Splendid welcome to Annalise Brown who today joins us as the third director of our thriving Australasian office (alongside Ben Gotto Smith and Suzanne Scrimgour). She comes to us from Spin Communications where she was MD. Spin is one of the pioneering integrated agencies in Australia and has pulled off tons of great youth and big brand coups and we know her experience there will neatly broaden our current offer.

We’ve already been doing cool stuff like branded content (for Cornetto and DJ Goodwill), digital based 360 brand campaigns (for Johnnie Walker) and a secret society for Johnnie Walker Blue Label, and we know Annalise will be brilliant at helping us keep pushing the envelope.

Annalise has worked on some great local global brands like Lee, Wrangler, Mercedes Australian Fashion Week, Cointreau, Campari, Glenfiddich, Contiki, Coke, Portmans, eBay, VISA, Tropfest and Mattel. We hope this bold move will lock down our success so far in Australia and clear the way for a march up into Asia, working towards our vision to become a global boutique agency.

Please feel free to contact Annalise anytime on annaliseb@splendidcomms.com.
